Lesson 5
Step 1 Revision
1. Check the homework exercises
2. Point out how much the Ss know about Captain Cook
Step 2 Presentation
Teach the new words/phrases : fall ill , fever
Step 3 Reading
Ask the Ss to read the dialogue again or listen to the tape.
Then do Ex. Lesson 5 in close pairs.
Get several open pairs to do it in class.
Step 4 Dialogue
1. Play the tape of the dialogue for the Ss to listen and follow.
2. Notes:
(1) I insist on taking---- insist on doing sth.
(2) Suffer fever----have a fever
(3) We will---we’ll
(4) I shall insist that they do = I shall order them to eat
(5) Endeavour---try hard
(6) I suggest taking----suggest doing
(7) litres---in the 18th century people had to use old-fashioned system of measurement, not litres
Step 5 Practice
Use the following phrases or sentences

Step 6 Useful expressions

Step 7 Workbook
1. Get the Ss to translate the sentences into Chinese
2. Exx 2 and 3 should be done in class
3. Encourage them to ask more questions
Step 8 Consolidation
Get the Ss to recall as much of the dialogue as they can, with the books shut.
Step 9 Home work
Finish of all the exercises.
