二、教學方法建議
(一)主題任務(Core task)
根據本單元的中心話題,建議設計以下三個任務供教師參考,并根據實際情況運用任務。
任務一:收集植物
活動時間:完成熱身、聽力及口語之后
語言知識要求:與本單元有關的詞匯
語言技能要求:聽、說
活動形式:
1.個人活動:搜索有關植物的知識,記錄整理:
What is the name?
What is it like?
What is it used for?
What is its family?
2.小組活動:四至五人一組,小組同學互相介紹自己搜集的植物,然后推選一至兩人到班上展示。
3.班級活動:各組學生代表用表格、圖片或課件等形式向同學介紹該植物。其他同學做記錄,盡可能多地了解植物。
任務目的:
1.熟悉、認識更多的植物;
2.更多地了解植物的特性、象征意義等;
3.在實踐中運用所學語言及知識,解決生活中的問題。
任務二:小小花卉展(小小生物角)
活動時間:貫穿整個單元
語言知識要求:與本單元相關的詞匯
語言技能要求:聽、說,讀、寫
活動形式:
1.班級活動:本單元一開始,教師布置每個同學(或兩人一組)準備一種或一種以上花盆植物,可以是家里現成的,也可以是自己去山上采挖、然后種植于花盆的。
2.個人或兩人小組活動:同學分頭準備花盆植物,并用英語記錄花卉名稱、產地、用途、花卉形狀、象征涵義等。
3.個人或兩人小組活動:記錄、觀察花卉的生長過程,做觀察日記:如土壤要求、氣候要求、用水要求、成長變化等。
4.分組活動:6-8人一組,同學之間互相介紹自己所準備的植物,用英語描述、介紹該植物的特性等;然后貼上標簽,注明植物名稱、標明植物特性,掛上自己做的觀察日記。小組同學互相提出修改意見。
5.班級活動:植物展覽,同學互相學習,評出最佳花卉、最佳植物描述、最佳觀察日記等。
任務目的:
1.培養、激發學生對大自然的熱愛;
2.盡可能多熟悉、解植物特別是花卉的有關知識;
3.培養學生仔細觀察、認真記錄的習慣,并注意準確記錄;
4.將所學語言和知識用于實踐,學以致用;
5.美化、愛護環境。
任務三:生物科學家論壇
活動時間:學完“讀前”、“閱讀”、“讀后”、“綜合技能”之后
語言知識要求:本單元有關詞匯
語言技能要求:讀、寫、說、聽
活動形式:
1小組活動:以4-6人為一小組,討論確定將要介紹的生物科學家。
2.個人活動:分工搜索、重組材料(有條件的學校可以要求學生利用網絡搜尋資料并將材料根據需要以Powerpoint形式或網絡形式制成課件)。要求學生在語言運用上突出重點,充分利用本單元的語言。
3.小組活動:小組成員之間介紹、交流自己搜尋的材料,整合所有有用信息。
4.班級活動:小組同學以論壇形式向全班同學演示、介紹該生物科學家,班級將各組的資料做成墻報進行展示(也可以在網上共享),并評出最佳作品。
任務目的:
1.加強學生的探究意識,提高學生有目的地搜索信息和加工信息的能力;
2.了解、熟悉更多的生物科學家,學習他們的科學精神;
3.運用、鞏固有關語言知識,提高學生的思辯能力。

(二)熱身(Warming up)
本單元的話題是“綠色世界”,主要談論的是植物學這一學科。學生對這一話題并不陌生,但是也不會懂得很多。建議教學活動如下:
1.T:What is the green world? What can we see in the green World?
Ss:We can see a lot of trees,plants,flowers, vegetables and etc.
2.How many trees do you know? 教師向學生展示有關樹的圖片。
How many flowers do you know? Can you name some?(Ss can name the flowers in Chinese if they don’t know the English for the flowers.)教師向學生展示有關花的圖片,并逐個討論。
如:
What is the name of the flower?
Where does it usually grow?
What is it used for?
Does it have any special meaning? What is it?
Can you describe it?
What is your favourite flower? Why?
教師和學生一起討論有關花卉知識,并呈現有關花卉的詞匯。然后完成課本練習。

Flowers come in many different colours,shapes and sizes.Flowers like tulips and roses are big and showy,but grass and oak tree flowers are tiny and often difficult to see.Flowers grow on garden plants,on shrubs,on trees and even on grasses.They contain the parts that make seeds.The seeds will grow into new plants.So flowers help to make more plants of the same kind.
Blossoms Many trees have attractive colourful flowers,or blossoms.The blossoms of fruit trees,such as cherry,apple and pear, develop into fruits,which contain the trees’seeds.
Colour and scent Some flowers,like poppies,are brightly coloured. Hyacinths and roses are colourful and have a sweet smell,Flowers which bloom early in the year, such as snowdrops and daffodils,are mostly white or yellow.Sunflowers are always yellow in colour, but other flowers,like chrysanthemums,can be yellow. orange,blue,red,and many other colours,too.
Hidden flowers The flowers of grass and sedge plants can be difficult to see.They are often the same colour as the plants,leaves and steins Some trees,such as willow and poplar trees,grow plain-looking flowers called catkins They hang down from the tree in small clusters
(三)聽力(Listening)
熱身活動之后,相信學生對花卉有了初步的了解。聽力的內容是有關“水果”的話題,因此,教學活動可以緊接著進行。建議教學開展“聽前”、“聽錄音”和“聽后”活動。
1.聽前活動:師生討論
T:Now you have some knowledge of flowers The green world includes flowers,vegetables and fruits.Do you like fruits? What do you know about them? What kinds of fruit do you know? (教師可以出示各種水果圖片,學生討論水果有關知識)
學生小組討論:
1)names of the fruits;
2)kinds of the fruits;
3)ways to put different kinds of fruit into groups;
4) why people need to eat fruit.
班級討論:小組向全班同學展示剛才討論內容。
2.聽錄音,完成第4、5練習。
3.聽后活動:學生根據聽前討論內容和錄音材料,談談水果方面的有關內容,也可以作為課后書面作業,寫在作業本上。
(四)口語(Speaking)
口語活動的教學目標可以從以下三個方面考慮:1.語言目標--學會如何敘述做事步驟。如: First(ly).second(ly),After that,At last等。2.知識目標--會談論如何種植花草、蔬菜等綠色植物。3.技能目標--學會種植一種綠色植物,培養自己動手、策劃和探究能力。
建議教學開展以下活動:
1.師生討論:
T:Do you have pots of plants in your home?
What is it?
Who usually looks after it?
Have you ever planted or grown any flowers or vegetables? Do you know how?
教師也可以事先準備一棵植物,與學生一起討論:
T:Do you know what it is? Do you know how to plant (look after) it?
2.生生討論:2-3人一組,其中一個記錄。如:
S1:What have you grown?/What would you like to grow?
How would you take care of it?

3.班級活動:全班同學討論、講述如何種植花卉或蔬菜體會,例如:It is a good idea to… Firstly, we…Secondly,we…學生在敘述做事步驟時,再一次運用firstly,secondly,thirdly,then等詞進行描述。然后完成課本練習2和練習3。
也可以參照任務二。
(五)讀前(Pre-reading)
為了更好地理解課文,教師可以在讀前做一些適當的鋪墊。如教師可以呈現植物、水果圖片或實物,引導學生進入植物的世界。
T:What's this? (What are these?)

What do we call the persons doing the research on the plants? (botanists)
Do you know any botanists?
How do scientists classify them now? How did they classify them in the past?

然后自然過渡到閱讀課文。
(六)閱讀(Reading)
本閱讀篇章的目標為:
1.使學生了解植物學這一學科的形成,并了解一個學科的形成需要經過漫長的時間及幾代科學家的努力和奮斗。
2.使學生了解科學家為科學事業所作的努力及其奮斗精神。
3.培養學生捕捉細節、分析主題最終提高閱讀的能力。
針對這些教學目標,建議進行如下教學活動:
1.解讀標題The Birth of a Science。由于有了讀前的過渡、鋪墊,學生容易理解本文標題。
2.疏通課文,捕捉細節。

Joseph Banks

His second expedition was the great voyage with James Cook to the Oceania.He supplied about 10,000 pounds.His three-year voyage achieved a lot on botany He not only studied and described the new plants he found but also looked out for new economic species After his return.he helped develop the royal gardens at Kew into one of the great botanical gardens in the world and made it a center of scientific and economic research.

(七)讀后(Post-reading)
讀后練習的目的是加深對閱讀的理解,其中問題2、3、4可在閱讀過程中處理。然后組織學生討論:How was the science of botany born? Was it easy?也可以結合任務三,引導學生更多地了解植物學家,進一步激發學生對生命科學的熱愛和探索熱情。
(八)語言學習(Language study)
1.詞匯學習(Word study)
詞匯學習的第一個練習讓學生根據句子意義,在方框中找出與句子劃線部分意義相似的詞或短語;第二個練習運用本單元所出現的詞匯完成短文填空。建議做練習前,教師在復習課文的同時對本單元出現的詞匯以聽寫、造句,編故事等形式先做一一復習、歸納,然后讓學生自己完成這兩個練習。
2.語法(Grammar)
語法部分復習賓語從句。鼓勵學生進行探素性學習,自己進行分析歸納。
(九)綜合技能(Integrating skills)
綜合技能的閱讀部分主要介紹了達爾文及另外兩位科學家格雷戈門德爾,約特杜爾松關于物種的研究和他們的成糶。達爾文參加“小獵犬號”船隊遠征,完成了科學巨著《物種起源》。在加拉帕戈斯群島,他發現了幾百種不被世人知曉的新植物,并發現植物與動物物種一樣起源于不同的居住地和不同的食物源,同時還找到了解釋不同物種之間差異的答案;19世紀40-50年代,門德爾酷愛大自然,做了大量的花草實驗,發現植物的特性代代相傳,并不受環境影響,他的研究使植物遺傳學誕生;1922年,杜爾松找到證據,表明由于各地的氣候條件、土壤狀況不同,同一物種的植物也會產生差異。三位科學家的研究表明遺傳和環境對植物有著極其重要的影響。
教師可以讓學生細讀課文,完成下列表格。
